April 1st , 2014 Update part 2

APRIL FOOLS DAY

Now that we've past non the offical statement regarding the players is below...

Beith Juniors are delighted to announce the signing of Kevin MacDonald from Kilbirnie Ladeside. Kevin was the captain of Kilbirnie and is looking forward to his new challenge at Bellsdale. Kevin previously played with Bellshill, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy and Irvine Meadow where he twice won the Premier League.  Hopefully Kevin will enjoy his time at Beith as much as the last Kilbirnie captain we signed in Neil Shearer.

Kevin is an elegant football playing centre back who nearly signed for the club when he left Rob Roy and joins the club where he already has friends in David McGowan, Marc McShane and Stuart MacDonald. Welcome to the Beith Juniors family, Kevin!

In other news, Gary Wild has been released from his contract at the club and we would like to thank him for all his efforts at the club and hope he finds a new club as soon as possible. Good luck Gary!

April 2014 Update

FORTHCOMING CHANGES

There’s been a couple of changes with the squad of late, mainly thanks to a very generous donation from an anonymous benefactor.

Gary Wild had been released from his contract at the club and we hope he finds a new club as soon as possible. Good luck Gary!

The Beith scouts have been out and about looking for new talent from Kilbirnie to Barcelona. John Boal, Club President draw the long straw and secured the Barcelona trip. John had the opportunity to speak to Lionel Messi’s agent and to the great man himself.

Messi had concerns about relocating but of course John, never one to miss an opportunity promised him that WH Malcolm logistics, one of Beith’s main sponsors would take care of the whole process. Discussions with Mr Messi’s agent are well under way.

Beith’s other scout drew the short straw and got to speak to Kevin MacDonald at Kilbirnie Ladeside, signing the Kilbirnie captain would be a major scoop for Beith as well as adding a fantastic talent to the Beith line-up.

The board are meeting at 12noon today (1st April) to make the final choice between Messi and MacDonald any comments from the fans would be greatly appreciated as to whole to go for.

Please follow the link at the bottom of this page to the Forum where you can have you say on which player Beith should sign for next season.

March 2014 Update

BEQUEST FROM TOM HAMILTON

Beith Juniors FC have been gifted a substantial sum from the estate of one of their loyal supporters who died recently, Tom Hamilton.  In the picture a cheque is handed to club secretary and treasurer Robert McCarter, also in the picture are two of tom’s daughters, Sarah Ferguson (far left), Sandra Davis (Centre) together with two of his grandchildren, Callum Davis (2nd from right) and Rebecca Davis (far right).

Tom was a very much respected member of the football club and through his life not only followed the team to many far and near venues but was also contributed generously each year towards the club in the form of sponsorship and was a member of the Jean Hays Executive Club since its inauguration some 20 years ago.

Tom is sadly missed during match days at Bellsdale and especially his unique form of humour, he used to take great delight in standing behind the oppositions goal and winding up opposing goalkeeping often much to brother Iain’s embarrassment. He was definitely unique and will be long remembered at Bellsdale, more so now since one of Tom’s last wishes was to have a seat placed at Bellsdale where he could visit on match days and watch his beloved Beith Juniors who he had supported man and boy throughout has life.  The club are more than happy to accommodate these wishes and hope that it will remind those who visit Bellsdale of Tom and of his loyalty and devotion to the club he loved.

February 2014 Newsletter

LOTTERY

With no Jackpot winners over the last months the jackpot as of Sunday 9th February 2014  stands at £2,700.  This will increase by £50 each week if there are no jackpot winners until the jackpot is won.  We have recently arranged some additional agents to sell our weekly lottery tickets and also some local shop and pubs have agreed to sell them within their premises on behalf of the club and we are very grateful to all of them for taking the time to do so.

The new agents are Brenda Reilly, Catherine Burns, Laura Smith, Amy Pratt, and Donna Gallagher and the local business outlets where you can purchase your Beith Juniors FC lottery tickets are at Beegees Newsagents Main Street Beith, Curves Gym, Eglinton Inn, Caledonian Inn and Beith Palace Chinese Take-away. So far the increase in weekly sales has increased since all of these agents and establishments came on board and of course the current jackpot of £2,700 is a worthwhile sum to win and well worth cost of a ticket.

The lottery has recently enjoyed a shot in the arm and is showing a marked increase in activity since the aforementioned people and businesses came onboard and much thanks must go to all those mentioned above and to Mark Sneddon for the enthusiasm and energy he showed, it was the spark needed to ignite this mini revival with much needed input from Brenda, Catherine & Brent Norris, well done and sincere thanks to all.

QUIZ NIGHT

Our recent Quiz Night held at Bellsdale on Friday 7th February was a resounding success and as well as being an enjoyable night raised some much needed funds for the club.  Andy Graham was in good form as usual in performing his quizmaster duties with ten very balanced rounds of questions he had compiled to test the intelligence of those participating.

The eventual winners being a team of four captained by Alan Cree who at the finish were well ahead of the remaining 13 teams but never the less it was a contest that was played out with a lot of humour and at times some great hilarity.  A special thanks goes to Maurice Irvine who donated the scotch pies for the supper which were excellently served with a garnish of your choice of either beans or mushy peas as is traditional.

Look out for the next Quiz Night where Captain Alan Cree and his team have laid down the challenge to all to come and take the coveted title from them.

RACE NIGHT

We are holding a Race Night in the Beith Community Centre on Saturday the 5th April 2014 which is the same day as the Grand National at Aintree, final details are still to be discussed and agreed but we  are hoping for as large a turnout as possible since we desperately need to keep generating much needed income as we start the second half of the season so please mark the date in your diary and start  your preparations for what should be another great night out and we can raise some cash for the club towards that big promotion race back to the top league. Further information to follow about ticket prices, cost of horses if you wish to be an owner and also we will be looking for all races to be sponsored to provide the winning owners with a prize should their horse win.

Player Of The Year Annual Awards & Speakers Lunch We will soon be putting tickets on sale for the speaker’s lunch and final details are being made for this event. The venue will be in Beith Community Centre on Sunday the 18th May 2014 and we have managed to secure the services of the much sought after speaker John Gaghan who is most certainly one of the best  entertaining speakers on the circuit at present.  The chairman for this event will be a good friend of the club who has helped us out at many events recently Bill Copeland who as we all know is also very funny and entertaining.  So get the date in your diary as this will be an event not to be missed, start putting past a couple of quid a week to help give yourself an enjoyable afternoon and lunch in the company of your fellow supporters, friends, players and management team to see who has won the awards this year.

PLAYER MOVEMENT & SIGNING NEWS

There has been some movement in our playing squad recently with Neil Greenwood stepping down and going back to play Amateur football and Paul Craig also having to move on due to work commitments.  We thank these players for all their services to the club and wish them well in the future. With the departure of Neil and with only one goalkeeper we had to secure the services of a second keeper and have done so with the signing of Ross Lundy from Saltcoats Victoria. Ross’s former clubs include Ardrossan Winton Rovers, Kilwinning Rangers and Queens Park FC I sure you will all want to join me in welcoming Ross to Beith and wish him all the best with us.

We are also delighted to be able to say that Nicky Docherty, David McGowan & David Donnelly  have extended their current agreements with Beith Juniors FC until  June 2016 which is a further 2 seasons and Kenny McLean & Paul Frize have extended their agreements until  June 2015 which is for a further season.

With freedom of contract now introduced to Junior Football it is vital to firm up arrangements with players prior to the end of the season to allow the management team to know exactly where they stand for the season ahead it also shows that players have commitment to the club and that the club has commitment to them as we go forward in the search for silverware and success. Just for the record Andy Reid is already on an agreement for next season and we will be speaking to others in the months ahead.

GEORGE ANDERSON

It is with much sadness that we record the passing of George Anderson after a long battle against cancer, George died last Thursday morning at morningside nursing home Barrmill Road Beith and our deepest sympathy goes to his  wife Mary and the rest of the family.  I don’t think there are any words that we could write to accurately describe the amount of time, energy, loyalty and devotion George gave to Beith Juniors throughout his life which was always to our benefit and he will be sadly missed, he leaves  a lot of memories for us all of that I am sure. Anytime there were major works going on at Bellsdale you were always sure to find George right there in the middle of it all giving his opinion regardless of the circumstances.  George never needed to be asked to help he just rolled up his sleeves rubbed spit into his hands and got on with it, there was nothing George would not attempt and there were also occasions when you wished he had not bothered. Georges Funeral will take place on Monday 13th January at Woodside Crematorium Paisley.

FIXTURES

The remaining fixtures we have at this moment for January are:-

Stagecoach Super league First Division – Saturday 11th January – Greenock v Beith, 1.45pm &  Saturday 18th January –   Beith  v Maybole,  1.45pm

QUIZ NIGHT

We are holding a quiz night in the hall at Bellsdale on Friday the 7th February 2014  entry cost per team and final details are still to be discussed and agreed but we  are hoping for as large a turnout as possible since we desperately need to keep generating much needed income as we start the second half of the season so please mark the date in your diary and start organising your team for what should be a good night out and we can raise some cash for the club towards that big promotion race back to the top league.

ANNUAL SPEAKERS LUNCH

We will soon be putting tickets on sale for the speaker’s lunch and final details are being made for this event. The venue will be in Beith and will be finalised once we have an indication of the numbers likely to be attending. The date is likely to be in May sometime and is also still to be determined.

FUTURE FUNDRAISING EVENTS

We are currently looking at dates for future fundraising events over the next two or three months and are asking you for your preferences about the type of events. We are thinking about either a Race Night or a Casino Night and would welcome feedback on which would be best supported or if we could have one of each or indeed any other thoughts for another type of event that would be well supported and generate much needed income. Remember we are happy to arrange as many events as are worthwhile practical but we need your support at these as much as the team needs your support on the park, the club belongs to you the fans and we are only as strong as that fan base, so the more you contribute the stronger we will get.

September 2013 Newsletter

LOTTERY

With no Jackpot winners this week the jackpot as of Sunday 22nd September  stands at £1,700.  This will increase by £50 each week if there are no jackpot winners until the jackpot is won.

This fund raising option is fast becoming less and less profitable and unless we see a marked improvement in the next month or so it may be that we need to look at an exit strategy after the next jackpot win.  If this were to happen it would be a huge loss of income to the club which would have a direct impact on the budget we have been working on this year and in particular would be directly detrimental to being able to attract new players or indeed being able to offer this years squad similar offers next year. This would be frustrating and disappointing if we were to gain promotion with some of the players we have this year attracting interest from other clubs who no doubt will seize the opportunity to try and poach some of our better ones. You may feel this is scaremongering but unfortunately it is a potential outcome unless we revitalise the lottery in some way, any thoughts on this issue will be appreciated.

FUNDRAISING 200 CLUB

“To enable Beith Juniors to get back where they belong at the top level of Junior Football we are pushing to further develop the above fund raising club hopefully to 200 or more members if possible.  To help us achieve this we need your help and support to get the number of members up to 200, each giving only £10 per month by standing order direct to Beith Juniors FC bank account thereby reducing significant admin costs and time.  £10 each month breaks down to 33p per day and from a population of 6000 in Beith we feel that 4% (200) of that population could afford that amount.  There will be two prize draws each year of £1,000 if we achieve the target of 200 members, if not the amount will be dependant on how many members we do achieve. We desperately need to succeed in this venture and would gratefully welcome new members, please contact any official or committee member details.”

You may remember the above item from our August Newsletter, well to date we have fell way short of our 200 target by some distance with only just under 60 persons signing up to a monthly donation. Again as per the lottery drop in income this would also have a detrimental effect on the clubs income and working budget. Sorry to be sounding negative and despondent in this but the club belongs to the fans and the community and what they contribute towards these fund raising activities has a direct impact on the quality of our playing staff, management team, playing surface and every other part of the infrastructure at the club which is part of our strategy for attracting new players to the club.

PRE MATCH BELLSDALE BAR

On a brighter note the introduction of our pre-match bar voucher system is becoming very popular and is open from approximately 12.30pm on home match days.  There is a very good friendly atmosphere and a lot of good information being communicated which can only be good in getting the message across.

Beith v Ladeside

Beith officials have been heavily engaged in lots of talks between both Ladeside officials and the local police regarding the game and Beith officials will also be involved in more talks at committee level tomorrow night regarding Wednesdays match.

The following segregation and rules will be set in place come the match; Beith Juniors fans shall enter Bellsdale park via the usual form of method which is the top turnstiles at the refreshment bar .

Kilbirnie Ladeside fans shall enter Bellsdale Park via the Meadowside/ Astro Turf facility end of the ground at our makeshift turnstile which sits next to our clubs pavilion.

Kilbirnie Ladeside fans will be housed in the far away right hand enclosure which sits to the right hand side of the away dugout and any further fans will be accommodated behind the bottom goals.

This method worked excellently at the Scottish cup tie between both teams at bellsdale park and the club are determined to stick with a tried and trusted practice.

The club are operating a strict ZERO TOLERANCE on alcohol on anyone's possession at the turnstiles and anyone found to be in possession will be dealt with by the police and committee members who will confiscate said items .

Anyone who is in any way inebriated upon trying to gain entry to the ground will SIMPLY BE REFUSED entry to the ground and the game.

The eyes of the junior world are upon Beith Juniors and Kilbirnie Ladeside on Wednesday , the people in charge of our game have given both clubs and their fans the opportunity to enjoy our derby again, please everyone play their part, enjoy the game and remember the match for the correct reasons as opposed to the nonsense that has blighted the fixture in the recent past.

Any more developments will be posted on here regarding the clubs off field plans for Wednesday night.

SIGNING NEWS

With the signing of Robert Storrie yesterday the playing squad for the coming season now stands at twenty players. This may fluctuate throughout the course of the season once we settle in to the league fixtures. Robert Storrie has been playing as a trialist in the pre-season friendlies and also in the Ardagh league Cup sectional games which has enabled the manager to assess how he would fit into the squad and that his attributes would enhance the existing playing staff, in choosing to sign Robert the manager has obviously come to the conclusion that he will fit in to the pool.

As stated above we now have a playing squad of twenty and at this juncture the shape and fluency within that squad looks more than adequate to allow us to compete in our league and whilst we are well aware that it is a very competitive league we hope to bounce straight back to the premiership at our first attempt. This may seem to some as a very bold statement but as a club the officials, management and players are committed to that aim and we hope that our supporters are of the same frame of mind and get on board and support the team on the field as well as all our other fundraising ventures and attend events throughout the year wherever possible.

We have extended our budget this year with the sole aim of achieving the above goal and we all now need to work extremely hard to make sure that our ambitions come to fruition, we can only do this as a group with everyone contributing and we look forward to your positive support in this respect.

LOTTERY

With no Jackpot winners this week the jackpot as of Sunday 11th August  stands at £1,400.  This will increase by £50 each week if there are no jackpot winners until the jackpot is won.  The weekly increase in the jackpot  has been amended since the drop in income meant that we were taking in less that £100 per week and you don’t have to be a genius to work out the economics of that.

FUNDRAISING 200 CLUB

To enable Beith Juniors to get back where they belong at the top level of Junior Football we are pushing to further develop the above fundraising club hopefully to 200 or more members if possible.

AUGUST FIXTURES

The remaining fixtures we have at this moment for August are:-

Ardagh Cup – League Section –   Monday  12th Aug – Ardrossan Winton Rovers v Beith, 6.45pm with the final section game at Largs on Thursday 15th Aug with a 6.45pm kick-off

If we were to qualify for the quarter final of the Ardagh Cup this would be played on Wednesday 21st August with a 6.30pm kick-off, and as normal we would have a home tie if we were to win our section and an away tie if we finished runners up in the section.  If we qualified for the semi-final it would be played on the following Wednesday with a 6.30pm kick-off, we still seek clarification of the venue if this were the case.

Stagecoach Super league First Division – Saturday 17th Aug – Rutherglen Glencairn v Beith, 2.00pm

Saturday  24th Aug Beith v Renfrew Juniors, 2.00pm

Saturday 31st Aug Kilwinning Rangers v Beith, 2.00pm Show

The only remaining fixture to look out for is a friendly against Rangers FC on Sunday 25th August with a 2.00pm kick-off. We have been informed that Rangers will bring along some high profile players who have not been able to feature for them thus far this season to give them some match time. Also Beith Juniors will have some former players from our League winning side of 2009-2010 season.
